Jorge Hernandez — a beloved husband, grandfather, and cook — was pronounced dead approximately two hours after a driver hit him as he crossed South Columbus Boulevard around 9:05 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, Philadelphia police said.

Now, Hernandez's daughters have launched a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses.

"He was a great dad, husband, and grandfather who cared and loved us deeply, and will love us eternally. He spent his life sacrificing himself to give us a better future and life,” reads the campaign.

"Our grief is beyond what words can tell, and we hope all who read or share may understand a fraction of what a great person he was. Unfortunately, we are unable to fulfill his wishes alone."

Nearly $9,000 had been raised in just two days by hundreds of donors.

"We ask for your support for his arrangements and other costs that follow for us. We are eternally grateful for any donation or love sent," writes Amelie Hernandez.

No arrests had been made in the crash as of Thursday, Feb. 10.
